A high-speed internet connection is required to access both the Forecast and News Channels. Following this, on January 27, the News Channel will make headlines with the latest news from around the world provided by the Associated Press.

Weather information is to be provided by Weathernews. Users can also receive weather information from around the world by navigating an interactive 3-D model of the globe.

From this channel, users will be able to access constantly-updated local weather information. On December 20, Nintendo will launch the Forecast Channel. However, gamers eager to try out the Forecast and Weather Channels will have to wait a bit longer. On the Wii Shop Channel, gamers can download at least 12 classic Virtual Console games at launch with several more weekly releases bringing the total to over 30 by the end of the year. Wii owners will be able to immediately jump into the Mii Channel, where they can create digital caricatures of themselves the Photo Channel, where they can transfer files from an SD memory card to their Wii or the Shop Channel, where they can redeem Wii points to download games or other items. Unfortunately, only some of these previously announced channels will be available for consumers right out of the box. From the Wii Menu portal, players gain access to an ever-evolving set of functionalities including a News Channel, a Photo Channel, a Shop Channel, and a Forecast Channel.
